Position Summary

We are searching for a practically minded engineer to aid in the field deployment of new underwater technologies as well as assist in the development of new robotic systems. In the field, you will test, operate, and maintain the fleet of robotic platforms, solve problems both unforeseen and expected, and ensure the delivery of our cutting-edge data products. When not in the field, you will work within a dynamic and agile development-driven team to assist in the fabrication of new platforms and repair of equipment. Successful candidates will enjoy challenging and sometimes physical work whilst having a strong commitment to safety.

Key responsibilities

  • Carry out on-site field operations, requiring the setup of equipment, facilitation and monitoring of real time data collection, assessment and quality assurance of collected data
  • Operate on-site with the field operations team domestically in the USA
  • Maintenance of inspection equipment, ensuring all equipment is operational, up to date and ready for operations
  • Assist in the field deployment and operation of Abyss robotic platforms offshore. This includes ROVs, surface vessels, subsea cameras, and novel technological systems
  • Troubleshoot issues, coordinate maintenance, and data gathering with the robotic systems


Person specification

  • Hands on engineering fabrication/workshop experience
  • Basic electrical experience - soldering, cabling, circuit debugging
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a natural tinkerer. Enjoy working in a high-paced collaborative environment

Highly desirable

  • 1 + years of oil & gas project related experience
  • Understanding of computer vision, data science, machine learning
  • Robotics system integration/electronic circuit design experience
  • Familiarity with Linux and ROS Environments
  • Experience in Agile methodologies


An undergraduate engineering degree is preferred in a robotics related degree such as Mechatronics, Electronics, Mechanical (with robotics major) engineering, or an equivalent
